Villefranche-de-Panat lies at the crossroads of Albi, Rodez, Millau and Saint-Affrique. It is a small town situated in the heart of the lake region of Aveyron, in the commune of Lévézou. It lies at an altitude of 720 meters and extends around a lake of 192 hectares. It has been a popular place for outdoor activities and family vacations since 1950. Villefranche-de-Panat has a lot of historic treasures like dolmen, megalithic crosses, etc ... The town is still dominated by the tower of Peyrebrune, now claimed by the nearby town of Alrance. Remains of the castle of Peyrebrune overlook the valley of Alrance just as they did in earlier days. Visitors can learn about the local history through a film and exhibition which includes an example of "military" architecture and a 360° panorama of the surroundings. The town of Villefranche-de-Panat as well as Arance have a lot of hiking trails that begin in the center of the towns (approx. 70 km). On the lake (192 ha) you can enjoy various aquatic activities like supervised swimming, canoeing, dinghy sailing, pedal boating and fishing. There are numerous facilities available in the town such as a fishing course for children, multi-sports fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, picnic tables, etc.
