Tenuta Badessa with 9 Delightful Apartments and 3 Guest Rooms in Squinzano Tenuta Badessa is an estate with a long story to tell dating back to the early 14th century. Once owned by local monks, it was later acquired by rich French winemakers. For over one hundred years, it has been property of the Azzolini family who, at the beginning of the 20th century, turned it into a flourishing agricultural borough, with peasants’ dwellings, stables for animals, and warehouses for tools. Cattle were raised; oil and citrus fruits were produced.

Today, Tenuta Badessa is still committed to lively agricultural activities but, much more than that, it recently opened its gates to hospitality offering accommodation in spacious apartments and rooms with lovely views, beside a restaurant where genuine cuisine will delight even the most demanding palate.

A relaxing vacation is further guaranteed by the beautiful swimming pool set amidst the gardens and the spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, where you can stroll in total freedom among orange trees and century-old olive groves. An oasis of peace and the triumphal sounds of nature, where silence is broken only by chirping cicadas and singing birds.

Granma Rosaria began renovation works in 2002; the project foresaw the peasants’ dwellings turned into gracious apartments, the pigsty into the Reception office and a retail store for locally grown products, the tool warehouse into a spacious restaurant, the barn into a large hall for banquets, parties and conferences, and the stables into a peasant civilization museum. The swimming pool is located where the animals were once fenced in.

Apartments: The dwellings that once accommodated local peasants and their families have become nine delightful apartments. Spacious and airy, they feature antique decors and fittings, such as star-vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, arches, tuff rock ceilings and wrought iron beams. They offer ample living rooms with kitchenette, bedrooms with high ceilings, wrought iron beds and antique wooden furniture. Four apartments face the swimming pool and offer a private garden. The remaining five apartments look over the internal courtyard with a marvelous corner of countryside at their disposal. One of these five apartments is incredibly spacious and can accommodate up to eight guests. All apartments are equipped with air conditioning, television and private bathroom.

Guest Rooms: On the first floor of the main building, directly above the reception office, three guest rooms are available. Their prestigious location guarantees magnificent views. Access is via an external stone staircase; on one side, they look over a corridor with wall-to-wall glass windows that offer a wonderful view over the internal courtyard and the swimming pool area; on the other side, they offer spectacular panoramas over the surrounding countryside that stretches up to the horizon. Well appointed and cozy, our guest rooms are furnished with wrought iron beds, wooden furniture, white painted walls and bathrooms with walk-in shower cubicles. They are all equipped with air conditioning, television and a private bathroom.

“Tenuta Badessa” Restaurant: The old warehouse, once used to store agricultural tools, is now an excellent restaurant, where traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation are served using exclusively fresh and genuine ingredients: meatballs, pittule (deep fried dough), eggplant tart, orecchiette pasta in traditional Lecce sauce, spelt soup, mixed grilled meats, vegetables and fruit in season.

Dinner is served in a spacious room embellished with a monumental fireplace in Lecce stone, walls painted with brilliant colors, a modern chandelier and stone wall lamps, red drapes and large ceramics plates decorating the walls.
