Map & Directions of this vacation rentals property
Souillac
Getting there
Situated on the edge of Souillac, in a recent residence, not far from the town centre. Souillac is very sought after holiday destination thanks to its privileged location, at the crossroads of the Lot, Corrèze and Dordogne departments. Also for the beauty of its landscapes, its rich cultural heritage (close to Rocamadour, Gouffre de Padirac and the Dordogne valley with its 1000 castles.
Environment : Situated in a large and modern property, with covered swimming pool, surrounded by greenery, at the entrance to the town of Souillac.
PLACES TO VISIT:
Rocamadour. 25 km. Pedestrian-only village in a stunning location and FranceÂ’s second most visited tourist attraction after Le Mont St-Michel, Rocamadour is a truly magical town with golden houses clinging to the side of a cliff over the Alzou canyon. Not to be missed.
Gourdon. 25 km. Pleasant historic little town built of honey coloured stone, with little streets, medieval houses and interesting shops. Built on a hill, it enjoys lovely views of the surrounding sites.
Sarlat. 30 km. Beautiful, well restored town with old quarters dating from both medieval and renaissance times, with a maze of narrow medieval cobbled streets to explore.
Domme. 30 km. Very attractive bastide town, built at the top of a fairly steep hill and with 180 degree views across the Dordogne river and surrounding countryside.
THINGS TO DO:
Musée de l''Automate, Souillac. 1 km. Charming museum filled with mechanic toys and robots, from the 19th century to present day. You can see these toys and robots in action, accompanied by sounds and music – a jazz orchestra from 1920, a snake charmer, an antique doll, feeding a sparrow in her arms, a clown dancing on the moon.
Indian Forest Périgord, Carsac-Aillac. 20 km. Tree top adventure. 6 forest adventure courses for the entire family. Thrills to escape and experience the joys of adventure while having fun going through tree top trails and aerial walkways. Great fun.
Gouffre de Padirac, Padirac. 30 km. Spectacular cave and very impressive by its size. Part of the visit is by gondola and the trip will take around 90mn. Arrive early to avoid the queues. And donÂ’t forget your jumper! At the caves, there is also a zoo, picnic area, restaurant and children''s play area.
Insectopia, Gouffre de Padirac. 30 km. An interactive museum of insects and nature with an intriguing mix of live insects from leaf eating ants to praying mantis. For a little snack, why not try one of the ‘edible insects’, like the chocolate-coated ants! Not for the faint-hearted!
FURTHER AFIELD:
La Roque Gageac. 35 km. One of the “Most beautiful villages in France” and very popular with tourists, with little more than a row of riverside houses squeezed between the Dordogne river and sheltered below the overhanging cliffs behind. A truly ''picture postcard'' village.
Collonges-la-Rouge. 35 km. Most beautiful village dating from the 8th century, where most of the houses have been constructed from the local stone, which is very red! Lovely place to explore and well worth a detour.
Montignac. 45 km. Pretty village on the Vézère River most famous for being home to the Lascaux Caves.
Les Eyzies. 45 km. Home to the worldÂ’s most beautiful caves, some with outstanding crystallisations as well as stunning cliffs and rock formations. Cromagnon man was discovered here at the end of the 19th century. Nearby Fond de Gaume is one of the last prehistoric cave-painting sites that is still open to the public. The National Prehistory Museum which houses one of the worldÂ’s most complete collections of prehistoric artifacts is also found in Les Eyzies.
