In the southeastern part of Belgian Limburg, where the Belgian Kempen descends to the Meuse Valley, lies the National Park Hoge Kempen (5,750 ha). Its forests, moors and fens are iconic. This park, together with the rest of the Kempen and Maasland, contains a network of hundreds of kilometers of well-constructed hiking, cycling and horseback riding trails.
Approximately 6 km northwest of Maastricht lies Lanaken, which is one of the entrances to the National Park. In the town of Lanaken, in Rekem - known as the prettiest village in Flanders – you will find the beautiful resort of “Sonnevijver‿.
