The city of Porec, as a constituent part of the republic of Croatia, is an autonomous local unit in the district of Istria. It is situated in the central part of the Istrian West Coast. The City and the neighbouring region is 142 km2 large, with about 17000 residents. The center of the region is Porec- Parenzo with 11000 residents. Other larger towns are Tar- Torre, Vabriga, Baderna, Zbandaj, Nova Vas, Fuskulin, Dracevac, Varvari, Cervar - Porat.

Porestina is a wide region situated between the Mirna River on the north and the Lim Canal. To the south of Poreclies Funtanaand Vrsarwhich are also situated along the coast. Larger towns inland are Visnjan, Vizinada, St. Lovrec and Kastelir.

The hilly landscape constantly changes from plough lands to vineyards and olive groves. Oak trees and pine trees often extend almost to the sea. The shoreline from the Mirna River to the Lim Canal along with the islands is about 70 km long altogether.

The climate is mild, Mediterranean. During the coldest month, which is January, the average temperature is +5oC and during the warmest month, which is August, the average temperature is +24oC. The sea is clean and the sunbathing season lasts from May till October.

Traditional economic branches are agriculture and fishing, but in the last few decades Porechas become more famous for its tourism. Porec's Riviera is the most visited region by tourists in Croatia. Annually, Porec accommodates 700000 travelers from all over the world. The Porecregion has no heavy and ecologically damaging industry.
