Further details about property
Mascaros Luxury 7 Bedroom Chateau Near Beach The stunning Iberian town of Ullastret quietly sits amongst the golden cereal fields in the Baix Emporda area of the Costa Brava and was one of the first fortified urban settlements to be found in Catalonia. It is located on a small hill from which it overlooks the gentle and peaceful landscape of the Emporda and Costa Brava to the South and the Pyrenees Mountains and Girona to the North.
The original village was founded in the 6th century BC and by the end of that century was defended by a magnificent wall, much of which can still be seen today. This medieval village is a short walk from today´s Ullastret, and here you can marvel at the ruins such as the magnificent walls, remains of dwellings, cisterns, silos used for grain storage and public buildings such as the Temples.
The more recent village site is situated on a small hill around which was built a fortified wall and beautiful village church. The village developed around this fortified center and today is a peaceful, typically Catalan, environment. Everywhere you look beauty surrounds you from the lovingly restored character stone houses, unique nooks and crannies, tiny narrow streets and the stunning village church which is still used today by the local community for weddings, baptisms and children’s´ school productions.
Mas Mascaros is located in the unique and stunning vollage of Ullastret, in the heart of the Baix Emporda. Ullastret has a population of fewer than 300 and the locals, many of whom have lived here for generations, are proud of their village and its unique character and appeal. Many families from Barcelona own holiday and weekend properties here, too, where they come to escape from the city and bask in the tranquility of the best the Emporda region has to offer.
The small local store is a delight offering a chance to meet the locals as well as stock up on all your essentials and to try some local produce as Bottifarra – the Catalan specialty sausage and locally baked Iberian bread. The 3 local restaurants offer superb high quality traditional Iberian cooking sourcing all produce locally, and offer excellent local wines.
