Nestling between the Gavarres hills and the most beautiful part of this coastline, the village of Esclanyà and the small coves of Begurmake up an unequalled physical setting.

The town of Esclanyà is laid out around Sant Esteve d'Esclanyà church, mentioned in documents dating from 1280. The church contains features pertaining to the various periods of Romanesque architecture from the 10th century, which leads us to think that another church stood there formerly.

Esclanyà castle, popularly known as "Esclanyà tower", is a building dating from the 14th century. There remains of it the great rectangular-plan tower, from the Romanesque period and with merlons on the northern side.

The economy of Esclanyà was traditionally based on vine and olive cultivation, while tile production was the main industrial activity.

There runs from Sa Riera towards Pals beach a coastal path that leads to Illa Roja bay and, further on, to the Racó beach.

   Platja del Racó is the last beach belonging to Begurmunicipality. An atmosphere of stillness and calm reigns over it, making it very well-suited for those seeking sunshine and relaxation.

   It is a beach some 300 metres long and with an average width of 65 metres. Occupying an area of 12,000 m2, it makes a pleasant zone of repose.

   The beach borders to the east with the municipal district de Pals. Following the coastline towards the west, and already within Begurmunicipality, we come to Illa Roja bay, an internationally renowned nudist beach.
