Market town, Vire (5km), offers shopping, dining and all facilities inc. internet cafe. 1 hour north to Bayeux tapestry and the Normandy landing beaches. 1 hour west to Mont St. Michel and Granville on the coast. Villedieu les Poeles (Gods town of frying pans!!) 40 mins west has a great market on Tuesdays and is renowned for copper, brass and bell foundries. Swiss Normandy includes Orne and Calvados districts, south of the River Seine. Its name comes from the River Orne that flows across the area, making deep gorges and cliffs creating spectacular rocky landscapes. The main towns in Suisse Normandy are Thury-Harcourt, Clecy and Pont d'Ouilly. Nearby, Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror, makes for an interesting visit too. For walking try the Vire Gorges or the St. Sever forest nearby or 1km to the flat old railway line trail.
