In Southern Brittany, on the Gulf of Morbihan, Vannes is a delightful and lively city with narrow cobbled streets and medieval buildings crammed around its cathedral. Outside the old walled town, the large colourful port shelters many yachts and is the point of departure for scenic boat trips to the Gulf of Morbihan islands.

Gulf of Morbihan.Inland sea dotted with beautiful and picturesque little islands (one for each day of the year !) offering an exceptional panorama that can be enjoyed by boat or during a walk along the coast.
Auray. 20 km. Charming little town with beautiful old quarter with delightful 15th and 16th century houses. Nearby Ste Anne d’Auray is Brittany’s most important place of pilgrimage drawing thousands of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world all year round but especially on July 26th for its “Pardon de Ste Anne” which was attended by Pope John Paul II in 1996.
Rhuys Peninsula. 25 km. Between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic ocean, it boasts long sandy beaches, a golf course directly on the Atlantic coast, small fishing ports and the typical weekly markets. A paradise for sailors and watersports enthusiasts.
Carnac. 35 km. Sought-after and lively seaside resort with excellent sandy beaches. Also renowned for its impressive prehistoric standing stones. A wide range of watersport activities are available as well as a good selection of restaurants and bars.

THINGS TO DO:
Jardin aux Papillons, Vannes. 1500m. A fascinating visit to discover hundreds of exotic butterflies which fly freely among luxuriant plants and rare flowers.
Aquarium du Golfe, Vannes. 8 km. Aquarium. 50 tanks taking you from the Morbihan Gulf to the Red Sea via the Amazon. A refreshing visit for the whole family.
Golf de Baden, Baden. 15 km. Golf course. 3 holes Par 9 - 535m. 18 holes Par 72 - 5952m. On the very edge of the Morbihan Gulf and the Auray river, where the countryside meets the sea, a delightful setting provides plenty of golfing variety and beautiful scenery.
Parc de Branféré, Le Guerno. 35 km. Animal park.Very pleasant vast open air animal park with over 120 species and some 1,000 animals from around the world. In a beautiful setting, with the lovely back of Château Branféré.

FURTHER AFIELD:
Rochefort en Terre. 40 km. One of the most delightful villages in Brittany with every available stone surface, from the window ledges to the picturesque wishing well, adorned with colourful flowers. The village narrow cobbled streets with a variety of crafts workshops lead up to the medieval castle which is open for guided visits.
Pontivy. 55 km. Quaint market town with both a Napoleonic and medieval quarter overlooked by its fabulous 15th century moated castle. Situated on the banks of the Nantes to Brest Canal, it has a lovely atmosphere and boasts a large variety of restaurants and bars. DonÂ’t miss the market every Monday morning!
Josselin. 60 km. Lovely medieval town on the banks of the tranquil River Oust. The town is overlooked by a magnificent castle, still inhabited but open to the public. The castle also hosts an interesting Doll museum.
La Baule. 80 km. Fashionable and stylish seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches, talassotherapy centre and casino.
