The village

Gruissan, one of the loveliest villages in France, has succeeded in preserving its typical features and original Mediterranean colours. An old fishing and wine-making village, its circular alleys and ancient houses surround the venerable Barberousse Tower. This is the vestige of an ancient fortress built in the 10th and 11th centuries to control access to Narbonne, which also served as a refuge for the inhabitants in the event of attack.

Today it is the symbol of Gruissan, and provides an incomparable view of the village, port and surrounding scenery.

Around Gruissan

Gruissan's location lends itself particularly well to short excursions by sea or on land. If you like the mountains, what about a day out in Les Angles, in the Catalan Pyrenees (1h30). If you prefer a bit of heat, opt for a trip to Spain( Barcelona2h). If you are a wine buff, you can follow the Corbières wine route. If you are keen to discover the local culture, why not visit some of our remarkable historical sites, such as the Cathar castles, the medieval site of Villerouge-Termenes, Fontfroide Abbey or the fabulous walled city of Carcassonne...
