Al Lago Verde : Wonderful Guest House with Mountain & Lake Looking in Alia Lago Verde was once a simple healthy farmland which has now been transformed into a comfortable lodging. Surrounded by green pasture and beautiful countryside, this recently constructed place makes use of local stone, wood, old style ceramics, and wrought iron to hark back to the old times.

The small town of Alia, a typical picturesque countryside village with earth colors and narrow winding streets, can be admired from the large terraces of Lago Verde. Situated between three main centers -Palermo, Agrigento and Cefalu – Lago Verde is ideal as a base to discover the many faces of the Palermitan province. Although little known these past cultures are certainly no less fascinating. The contrasting scenaries stretch from the Cefalu seaside, the hills of the Madonnie and the feudal castles standing testimony to the history of our interland.

Everything on our farmstead has been structured with the countryside tranquility and nature in mind. The hustle and bustle of the city fades into a distant past. With this in mind, there are green lawns and spaces where various activities can be indulged in. These include gardening, fishing in the green lake, and the old country byways ideal for walks or bicycle rides. In summer the green lawns are transformed into . For the more active, we would even suggest horse riding along the marvellous mountains trails.

Territory: Other buildings of historic, architectonic and ethno-anthropological interest include fortified country houses, hamlets, chapels, paper mills, windmills, bridges and drinking troughs, all of which, alongside the archaeological and prehistoric sites, are a fully integral part of the territory and highly representative of the area’s history. An essential characteristic of this area is its rural identity, not only thanks to the presence of specific crops (vines and olive trees) but also, and more often, of vast areas of cereal and grain cultivations (ex large landed estates).

There is also a considerable area given over to sheep farming, and, consequentially, to the production of cheeses, (Pecorino Siciliano d.o.p., Canestrato, Palermitano, Provola Siciliana… and one possible itinerary could the “Monte Sicani Cheese Route”). Some farmers also grow a mix of crops such as vegetables, fruit, and vines.

Alia is a quiet and well-preserved town in the south-west Madonie, lying between wide, green hilly areas. The real attractions of this town lie 4 km away from the built-up area, on a rosy sandstone hill: the Grotte della Gurfa (Gurfa caves, 5000 b.C.), an inestimable and unique example of prehistoric architecture, whose two levels were hand-carved, and an outstanding tholos whose origin is still wrapped in mystery. An outstanding quantity of stone-carved tombs can be found along the sides of the Gurfa hill. Don’t miss the Etho-anthropological museum, bearing witness to the peasant world, the Arabian Cubaand the sulphur mines.

Our rooms are furnished in the Sicilian styles, with a high degree of comfort including air-conditioning, heating, TV, hair dryers and internet. Waking up to the sound of birds singing and the delicious breakfast, often set out on the terraces overlooking that beautiful panorama, is the start to wonderful days.
